Eugene Lauer, a priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, recently completed a three-year term as director of the National Pastoral Life Center in New York. Before moving to New York, he had been director of the Hesburgh Renewal Center at the University of Notre Dame for seventeen years. He began his ministry as a parish priest in his home diocese, serving in both inner-city and suburban parishes. After completing his doctorate in historical theology at the Gregorian University in Rome (studies he completed while the Second Vatican Council was in session), he served on the faculties of Duquestne University and LaRoche College in Pittsburgh, Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Wheeling Jesuit University and the University of Notre Dame. Author of four books and numerous articles on the relationship between theology and pastoral ministry, he lectures frequently on such issues to a wide variety of audiences. He is presently involved in theological and pastoral ministry in his home diocese of Pittsburgh.
