Speaker Bios



Angel Wing Ministry
  • Sr. Patricia Lenard is a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. She holds teaching certifications in Theology, Math, Science and Cisco Networking as well as Administration. She is a long-time retreat director.

    Sandy Kirschner is a Campus Minister with a counseling/pastoral care background. She has been a Theology Teacher and Campus Minister for over 25 years.

    Sr. Patricia and Sandy have worked together for seven years, three of those years in full time youth ministry. They specialize in ministries with youth and women and recently incorporated as Angel Wing Ministry.

Barry, SJ, Rev. William

  • Fr. Barry entered the Society of Jesus in 1950 and was ordained in 1962. He earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan in 1968. He has taught at the University of Michigan, Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and Boston College. He is the author or co-author of 15 books including The Practice of Spiritual Direction, God and You, Finding God in All Things, Spiritual Direction and the Encounter with God, and Who Do You Say I Am? He currently resides at Campion Center where he is co-director of a nine month Jesuit Tertianship Program and gives retreats and spiritual direction.


Beeghly, Nancy

  • A former English teacher and retired Vindicator columnist, Nancy aspires to be a cellist and a naturalist. When she was a child, her family’s camping trips to state and national parks and forests shaped her life and her love of nature. Mother of three adult children who also appreciate the natural world, she enjoys reading, writing, walking, and cycling. She has kept a journal ever since she received her first one with lock and key on her 12th birthday.

Billard, OLM, Ph.D., Sr. Ann

  • Sr. Ann is a Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy with 45 years of pastoral ministry experience. She has graduate degrees in pastoral counseling from Loyola University in Maryland and is a certified grief recovery specialist. She offers spiritual direction, lectures, workshops and reatreats on the spirituality of aging. She has presented at national conferences and to groups of older adults throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia.

Blake, HM, Sr. Ardath

  • Sr. Ardath has received training and supervision in spiritual direction through the St. Bueno Spiritual Exercise Centre, Asaph, Wales UK; the Center for Spirituality and Lay Ministry of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT and at Loyola House in Guelph, Ontario. Ardath also has a MA in Theology and MS in Education and experience in parish pastoral ministry.

Cooney, Rory

  • Rory Cooney is Director of Liturgy and Music at St. Anne Catholic Community in Barrington, Illinois. This prolific and award-winning composer is the writer and performer of a dozen recorded collections of liturgical music published by Oregon Catholic Press, World Library Publications, and GIA Publications; he gives workshops around the country, often with Gary Daigle and Theresa Donohoo on musical liturgy. Rory works with various institutes for the North American Forum on the Catechumenate on initiation rites and issues related to reconciliation in the Church. He has published several articles in various liturgy periodicals. His latest CD is entitled Today.


Crosby, Michael

  • Michael Crosby is a Capuchin Franciscan priest of the Midwest Province. He lives in community in downtown Milwaukee where the friars minister to people who are homeless, poor and marginalized. Since 1973 Michael has been a pioneer among Catholics in promoting corporate reform through socially responsible investing. He was influential in getting Catholics to work with the Protestant and Jewish communities in this effort at the Interfaith Center of Corporate Responsibility. Michael’s preaching and writing on contemporary biblical discipleship has taken him around the world. All of his latest books have received awards from the Catholic Press Association of Canada and the United States, including a First Place for his Can Religious Life Be Prophetic?

Garrison, Jenny

  • Jenny is a registered nurse, imagery guide, Kripalu Yoga Teacher, author, and mother of two daughters. She teaches imagery skills in a clear and solid manner, expertly guiding participants into this way of experiencing the depths of inner knowing. She holds certifications with the Academy for Guided Imagery and the International Institute for Visualization Research. Click here to visit Jenny's website.

Hanlon, HM, Sr. Rose Anne

  • Sr. Rose Anne is the Director of Hospitality at Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center. She is a veteran of both educational and vocational ministries. She was a secondary education teacher and guidance counselor. She was also the Assistant Vocation Director for the Diocese of Youngstown.

Holz, HM, Sr. Marguerite

  • Sr. Marguerite received her training and supervision at The Jesuit Renewal Center in Milford, OH. She has ministered as Spiritual Director in various retreat houses and Community Center settings. She holds Masters degrees in Counseling and Pastoral Studies, and her professional experience includes teaching, administration and counseling.


Laratonda, FMS, Br. Michael

  • Br. Michael is a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools, a religious congregation dedicated to Christian education. Michael's background includes: teaching at the secondary school and adult levels in the areas of English, Theology, and Film; Chaplaincy work in hospital and long-term care facilities with elders; retreat presenter and spiritual director; workshop facilitator in the areas of psycho-spiritual development, prayer, sexuality, journaling, and dreams.

Lenarcic, HM, Sr. Barbara

  • Sr. Barbara received her training and supervision through the Center for Spirituality and Lay Ministry at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT and at Loyola House in Guelph, Ontario. She has a MEd. in Religious Education and a MEd. in Mental Health Counseling. She has experience in parish religious education, pastoral ministry, and as a therapist and spiritual director at a renewal center for persons in ministry.

Merhaut, Jim

  • Jim Merhaut is a Christian marriage and family expert, award-winning author of Your Catholic Family: Simple Ways to Share the Faith at Home (St. Anthony Messenger Press) and a national speaker. Married for 22 years, he and his wife, Debbie, have five children (ages 11-21). He has published extensively on two Center for Ministry Development websites (generationsoffaith.org and fashioningfaith.org). He has also written essays for the Lifelong Faith Journal and Sadlier's website. Jim contributed 30 text articles for the upcoming Catholic Faith and Family Bible, published by Harper Catholic Bibles. His most recent publications are Family Way of the Cross, A Guide for Godparents, and Godparenting for Life (Liguori Publications).


Mincher, Karen

  • Karen has been empowering many to live healthier, happier lives throughout her career as a health educator. She is a teacher, speaker, certified life coach, and avid holistic health advocate. She provides practical details and draws from knowledge and her background using humor and real life experiences. She currently teaches health and phys ed at Boardman High School. She lives in Boardman, OH, with her beloved dog, Olivia Pearl. She likes adventure, travel, sports, reading, animals, and nature. She owns her own holistic health and wellness consulting business, “Life Matters.”

O'Donnell, HM, Sr. Barbara

  • Sr. Barbara holds a Master of Religious Education degree from LaSalle University in Pennsylvania and a Master of Earth Literacy degree from St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. She is a frequent presenter at Villa Maria and throughout the region.


Perdos, Marina

  • Holistic HealthCare Practitioner, RN. Marina owns and operates a private client based Healing Arts Studio in Ohio where she educates and offers therapy for balancing the body, mind and spirit. She has over 20 years experience with a broad variety of Eastern and Western therapeutic approaches. She works with all ages of clients from newborns to seniors and everyone in between. Her hobbies include many different kinds of sports, boating, animals and being outdoors! Has an ever growing family of dogs and cats...right now (3) cats, and (3) dogs.

Romeo, Frank

  • Frank Romeo is the beloved and legendary Director Emeritus of Land Management at Villa Maria Community Center in Villa Maria, PA. He is also the Director of the Lawrence County Conservation District and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. Frank is the author of A History of the Land, which chronicles the land management practices of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in Villa Maria, PA.
