Living Cosmology Reflected in Pope Francis
Maureen Wild, SC

This program will be conducted via Zoom.

Stained glass image created by Franciscan Sister Ann Therese Kelly -  Inspired by the ‘Canticle of Creation’ written in 1224 by Francis of Assisi, it reflects the cosmic view of the earth - Sun, moon, stars, wind, water, and the earth teeming with birds and fish, water, fire, mother earth, continents, trees and leaves.

Our living creation story (or living cosmology) - within which we and all beings are immersed - reveals the deep-time values of differentiation, interiority and communion. These universal dynamics provide a comprehensive context from which to reflect on our tradition’s evolving religious consciousness and teachings.  In this light we will reflect on Pope Francis’ teachings, especially the encyclicals, Laudato Si’ – On Care for Our Common Home and Fratelli Tutti – On Fraternity and Social Friendship.

This mini-retreat of 90-min looks through this doorway of our cosmological identity as a spiritual journey possessing inherent values, that live like seeds constantly activated within us as mutual respect, a culture of care, kindness, justice, healing – pathways to peace.  These are cosmological tendencies and Gospel ideals aptly mirrored in the teachings of Pope Francis.  We are humanitarian, Christian and Catholic within an amazing universal, self-emergent and intrinsically spiritual process of cosmogenesis living hand-in-hand with Christogenesis.

This 90-min retreat offers reflection on these converging themes inspiring and challenging us as Christians and as cosmological beings sharing ‘a blessed common belonging’ in God’s Great Creation Story as yet unfolding within and around us.

Recommended resources will be sent to participants upon registration.

Maureen Wild's graduate studies (’93 Boston) and primary ministry focus for many years has been on themes of our Living Cosmology and Sacred Ecology.  She served as Director of two spiritual-based ecological learning centers: Genesis Farm, NJ, followed by The Centre for Earth and Spirit, BC, which she cofounded.  She is one of the Sisters featured in the book Green Sisters: A Spiritual Ecology (Harvard Univ. Press, 2007).  Pope Francis’ encyclicals, Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti, are also an important focus for her work. As a sought-after speaker and retreat guide, she continually develops educational and retreat initiatives.
